Hartland falls to GB in Regional Semis

Rachael Sharpe scored one goal in Tuesday's regional semi-final match.
Rachael Sharpe scored one goal in Tuesday's regional semi-final match vs Grand Blanc.

The Hartland Eagles women's lacrosse team suffered a heart-breaking loss to Grand Blanc, 11-10, Tuesday evening in the regional semi-finals of the MSHAA playoffs.

Hartland faced Grand Blanc twice before earlier in the season and tied the first game and lost by one point in the second. This third meeting — as expected — was high-intensity and full-throttle from the opening draw.

Hartland led early in the match before GB came back to go up 5-4 at half time. In the second half, each team traded the lead a few times with Hartland going up by two goals at one point. And just like the previous two meetings, it came down to the final minute of play before a winner was determined. Hartland had last possession but could not advance the ball the length of the field as time expired.

Nikki Cerovec, Ashley Stoltenberg and Haley Crouse each scored two goals. Anna Lundwall, Ryan Skomial, Rachael Sharpe and Natalie Sochaki scored one goal each. Kelsey LaValley faced an incredible 33 shots on goal.

Hats off to our girls. They played with class and pride — all while (again) getting bombarded with unnecessary comments and jeers from the rude Grand Blanc parents.

Thanks for the wonderful season, ladies! You should all be VERY proud of how far this program has come in three short years. Hartland's 11-8-2 record tops all previous season records and has definitely opened the eyes of opponents across the state.

We will cap the season with a team banquet on Monday, June 7 at the High School Commons. Check your e-mail and this site for details.

Hartland Advances to Round Two

Goaltender, Kelsey LaValley
Kelsey LaValley was awesome in goal for Harland's 17-6 win over Clarkston on Wednesday afternoon. She faced 21 shots and blocked 15.

Hartland defeated Clarkston, 17-6, Wednesday afternoon in Lake Orion to advance to the Regional Semi-Finals. Leading 8-3 at the half, Hartland continued its tough defense and attacking offense in the second half to preserve the win. Considering the extremely hot temperatures on the field, everyone kept hydrated and focused. Great job, ladies!

Eight different Eagles scored in the victory: Nikki Cerovec scored five goals, followed closely by Anna Lundwall's four goals. Katie Chiapelli and Haley Crouse each scored twice while and Ashley Stoltenberg, Ryan Skomial, Lindsay Kaza and Rachael Sharpe each scored one.

Kelsey LaValley was outstanding in goal for Hartland — facing 21 shots on goal. Awesome!

Hartland will face Grand Blanc on Tuesday, June 1 for the Regional Semi-Finals back in Lake Orion. Grand Blanc defeated Huron Valley United in a match earlier in the day. This should be a nice little rematch. Go Eagles!

Hartland upsets Flint Powers, 16-15

Haley Crouse scored the game-winning goal Monday night
Haley Crouse (shown here in a game earlier this season) scored the game-winning goal Monday night vs Flint Powers.

What a great way to end the regular season — upsetting one of the top-ranked teams in Michigan, playing at home under perfect weather conditions Monday evening.

Trailing for most of the game, the Hartland varsity women's team kicked it up a notch when they needed it most. After senior Nikki Cerovec tied the game at 15-15 with over 2 minutes left, it was sophomore Haley Crouse's score with :28 seconds left that allowed Hartland to record the upset victory.

Leading all scorers for Hartland was — you guessed it — Nikki Cerovec with SEVEN goals! Anna Lundwall had four goals and Ryan Skomial added two more. Taylor Pryde, Lindsay Kaza and Haley Crouse each scored a goal.

Going into the first-round playoffs, Hartland's 10-7-2 record already tops previous season records. They will face-off against Clarkston this Wednesday at Lake Orion High School at 5:30pm.

Regretfully, I was unable to witness this huge victory for the Hartland, which means no photos or videos. I know...I'm pretty bummed about it, too. EDIT: I posted some photos taken by Bill Harris. Thanks, Bill! View them here.
